President's Prattle - 2019 End of Year
Well the end of the 2019 year is nearly here with many members swimming longer distances and faster times than ever before. The Busselton Jetty Swim times could be very fast this year indeed!
So far, there have been three Masters WOW Swims and each has been represented by members from our Club. It has been great to see the support Mandurah has given to these swims. Well done to Joel, John and Sue Mac who have participated in all three swims.
The next WOW Swim is the iconic Swim Thru Perth on Sunday 19th January. In addition, there is a big group already entered in the Cut 2 Club Swim being run the day before at Dawesville. For those swimming in the Cut 2 Club, if you don’t think this is enough, then why not back it up the next day with either a 3.5 or 1.6km at the Swim Thru Perth.
Of course, we have our own WOW Swim the 2020 Mandurah Australia Day Swim, which will involve lots of help from our members. The committee for this swim have all been working extremely hard to put this swim together. If you haven’t entered yet, there is still time to do so and support the club. Whether you are swimming or not, any help you can provide on the day would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, why not come down to Doddi's on Saturday 11th January and practice swimming the Australia Day Swim course, which will be set out that morning.
If you need a new Club Shirt, I have many sizes on hand. Please let me know what size you need when you see me at either the beach or the pool.
Pool training has ceased for the Christmas-New Year break, but will return to normal at 6.00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays under the direction of Des Seery from Tuesday 7th January. Some pool training is an ideal way to improve your overall swimming fitness.
The next pool event is the Melville LLCC, which is being held on Sunday 22nd March. Two weeks later, the MSWA State Championships are being held in Mandurah on the afternoon of the 4th and the morning of the 5th April. So far, we know our Club is setting up the venue and organising the Marshalling for the event. Please keep this weekend free to help out and/or participate.
Rockingham Masters have kindy invited us to their beach next Saturday 4th January for a swim, which will make an interesting change from the usual Doddi’s course (Click Here for details). Swimmers will be in the water from 7.00 am so please come and swim however many laps you wish to do. The Rockingham Beach foreshore has recently been redeveloped and looks pretty good. There are lots of places to choose from for the obligatory coffee afterwards.
Thank you to those members who have already renewed their membership for 2020. If you haven’t renewed yet, now is the time to do it! Please Click Here
To finish, thank you for your company at the pool and/or beach this year and I look forward to swimming with you in 2020.
