President's Prattle - March 2019
The 2018-19 Open Water Season has now finished. The last Masters swim, Coogee Jetty to Jetty, was held recently. As has been mentioned on the website, we had a fantastic turn out with 35 members competing. Congratulations to Pauline Wingate who won her age group in the 1500m event and Paul Frost who won the 750m Wetsuit category.
I have created a chart showing members times for past Jetty to Jetty swims from 2002 onward. Unfortunately, there is a glitch with the 2014 results. When that is fixed, I will complete the chart and post it up. Interestingly, our champion, and new Life Member, Pauline has completed the swim 13 times, just two behind Rod and Ken’s record of 15 swims each. I have no doubt the way Pauline is swimming she will pass them soon! Cassie Lindsay has the record for fastest time in 19 min 15 secs with Erica and Barb the only other two swimmers to go under 20 mins.
Congratulations to all who completed or supported the Port to Pub swim last weekend. There were a number of members in the following categories: Guy swam solo; Erica and Steve swam a duo; and Colleen and Narelle, as well as Ken and Cathy swam in their respective 4 person teams. From all accounts it was a hard, but enjoyable swim. No doubt many have started planning for next year's event.
We now turn our attention to the Pool swims. The first club gazetted swim takes place this Sunday at Melville. It is very pleasing to see that there will be 20 members competing.
Don’t forget to enter our LLCC swim coming up on Sunday 7th April. The flyer was sent out recently to all. There is a choice of events for you to enter. If you don’t want to swim, but can help on the day please contact Steve Crake who is coordinating the swim. Once again we will be asking for plastic containers (for the sandwiches) and a slice for lunch, but a flyer will come out closer to the event.
We have some new club shirts on hand in the following sizes:
Ladies: 12, 14 & 16; and
Men’s: M, L & XL.
If you would like to purchase one, please contact Deborah; otherwise, you can order directly from Hot Klobba.
Those who swim at Doddi’s have no doubt seen Vern, Phil and Barb keeping things very light with their antics. Last week was no exception as seen in the photo below, entitled: 'You can never have enough swim aids'.
I look forward to seeing you either at the pool training sessions or at Doddi’s where, in readiness for the colder months ahead, the start time has moved back to 8.00 am.
Keep on swimming.
Deborah
