First Ocean Winter Swim for 2018

Thanks to Ivan for the photos of today's first Saturday morning swim of the 2018 Winter. 26 Mannas and friends hit the water on a sunny, but chilly morning. Spotters, photographers and spectators made for a group of well over 30 enjoying a coffee and chat after the swim.

Direction wise, the light easterly blowing was reminiscent of summer swimming conditions, but there the similarity ended with the apparent air temperature around 5-6C and water temperature at 17C. A westerly current and swell made swimming to reef doable, but slightly more challenging.

Passers-by often shake their heads in dismay at so many "nutters" swimming in such conditions. But as some of those swimming say, you don't realise how much fun it is until you give it a try!
