Barb Pellick - Batonbearer for 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay!

Congratulations to our own Barb Pellick who has been chosen with some of Australia's most accomplished legends to be part of history as a batonbearer for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Queens Baton Relay.

Barb was nominated by her peers and selected in recognition of her achievements and contributions to the WA Swimming Community and because she represents the spirit of the Commonwealth and inspires others to be great.

As we all know, Barb is an outstanding person and woman marathon swimmer. Among her achievements: she has completed 28 Solo Rottnest Channel Swim Crossings, she was the first woman to swim both ways, and an inaugural inductee into the Rottnest Channel Swim Association Hall of Fame.

Internationally, she is one of only 168 swimmers worldwide that has completed the "Triple Crown" of marathon swimming consisting of three historically important swims: The English Channel (33.7 km between France and England); The Catalina Channel (32.5 km between Catalina Island and the California mainland); and the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (48.5 km circumnavigation of Manhattan Island, New York City).

There are many more accomplishments and honours in the list of Barb's achievements, but arguably none greater than how she inspires swimmers of all ages and abilities and generously passes on her knowledge through her swim school "Rottoswmr Swim Squad" and our Club.

Barb's turn as batonbearer will be at Rottnest Island on the morning of this year's Rottnest Channel Swim, 24 February 2018. If you would like to be there and cheer Barb on, be at the Rottnest Finish Line prior to 11:34 am. A group of Mannas are planning to be at Cottosloe bright and early to properly send off our Rotto swimmers, before sensibly catching the ferry over to cheer on Barb and, later, everyone as they finish the crossing. It is a great day and one not to be missed!
