President's Prattle - November 2016

What an exciting time the last few weeks have been. The inaugural Doddi's Dash proved a great success with 44 swimmers taking the challenge. Well done to Steve and his organising committee, and to Peter who made the trophy and won the trophy. With death the penalty for poor sportsmanship, there were NO incidents. The moneys raised have been used to purchase goods for the Peel Community Kitchen. Other exciting news is the allocation of the 2018 National Masters Championships to the Mandurah pool. Whilst I am sure this regionalisation will create some issues for the organising committees it will provide a unique opportunity to significantly raise the profile of Masters swimming in Peel. No doubt we will require a lot of volunteer input prior to and during this event. I encourage members interested in assisting in the planning and preparation for this major meet to contact Sam at Masters WA and let them know.

With this event coming, it would be great to see a significant increase in member participation at the Tuesday and Thursday club training nights. Our coaches volunteer their time and provide excellent training programs, but these sessions continue to be under- attended considering a membership of over 90. So come on folks! Dust off the winter reticence and get into training in the pool. All levels are catered for and this should be a central core of club activity. The water is a great temperature and the evenings are getting milder.

The Club was represented by 8 members at the recent Mandurah City Sports Awards dinner night and whilst we did not win any categories, Wayne made the final of "Volunteer of the Year” and the Club was a finalist in “Club of the Year”. This was pleasing and deserved recognition.

Our Christmas wind-up this year is shaping to be a good one, so let Sue McDonald know your contribution and come along and enjoy some fun.

Look after each other and enjoy your swimming.

Steve C
